Where do jobs, places and exchange rates come from?

You are searching as your Data Scientist profile and looking at a London posting from Spotify. Before you trust it, you want to know where Portage got it, how fresh it is, and where the city, the pay estimate and the visa rules come from. Portage reads only published, official or employer sources, and shows you which one each fact came from.

Jobs

SourceHow Portage reads itHow often
Employers' job boards on Greenhouse, Lever, Ashby, Workable, SmartRecruiters, Personio, Teamtailor and RecruiteeThe board's public feed of open postingsEvery hour
Employers you followThe employer's board is added to the list aboveEvery hour
Jobs you add or pasteWhat you entered, visible only in your workspaceWhen you add it

Portage maps only the fields a feed states. A posting that gives no salary period, for example, gets none; Portage does not guess one.

To see where one job came from:

  1. Open Jobs and select the posting.
  2. Select the Sources tab.
Sources tab of a job: Spotify (Lever), access Ats feed, first seen and last seen dates and times, and an Open link to the posting on the board

Each row is one place the job is listed, with how Portage reads it, when Portage first and last saw it there, and Open to view the original. A job listed on several boards is shown once, with a row for each. Insights counts these under Jobs listed on more than one source.

Places

Portage places a job using GeoNames, a free gazetteer of every city with more than 1,000 people. It is used when a posting names a city but no country, or a country with no city of that name. Portage reloads it once a month.

Exchange rates

Pay estimates use the European Central Bank's daily reference rates, the only exchange rates Portage uses. Portage reads them once a day. Under Salary currency in the Jobs filters, the note gives the date of the rates in use, such as Converted at ECB rates of 19 Oct. Eligibility checks never convert currencies.

Immigration rules and sponsor registers

Each rule links to its page, and each country page links to its register and gives the date Portage last read it.
