What Portage does

How does Portage help when I have to move countries for a job?

You are a software engineer in digital health, and the job you want is in another country. You need three answers for every posting: does it fit you, could you get a visa for it, and where does your application stand. Portage keeps those answers in one place, with the evidence behind each one, for each career direction you keep a profile for.

From profile to application

Portage works from a profile: your experience, skills, languages, degree and the countries you are aiming for. The seeded workspace has two, Digital Health Software Engineer (example) and Data Scientist (example). The profile under Searching as in the sidebar decides how every page ranks and checks jobs.

AreaWhat Portage does
JobsReads public job boards every hour, plus employers you follow and postings you paste. Search with AND, OR, NOT and quoted phrases, and filter by country, sponsorship, visa route, city and language
FitCompares the posting with your profile across nine dimensions, such as skills, role, language and salary, and says in words why each one matches or not. There is no single score
ImmigrationChecks each job against the visa routes for its country, rule by rule, and links every rule to the official page it comes from. Shows which employers are on the UK and Dutch sponsor registers
ApplicationsTracks each application from first look to offer, with notes and interviews. Keeps your CVs and approved answers, and can fill a Greenhouse application form with answers you approved

One job, all three answers

Open any posting from Jobs and its details show everything Portage knows about it for the active profile.

Job details for a Doctolib posting in Berlin: Apply on employer site and Tracked buttons, the Fit for this profile panel with one badge per dimension, and tabs for Why this job, Immigration, Requirements, Posting and Sources
  • Fit for this profile shows each dimension as Strong, Partial, Weak, Gap or Not stated. Portage says under it: "Fit compares your profile with the posting. It isn't a chance of being hired."
  • Why this job quotes the sentences from the posting behind each match and each gap.
  • Immigration checks the job against each visa route for its country.
  • Track application adds the job to your applications. Once tracked, the button reads Tracked with the current status.

What Portage never does

  • It never treats a fact it does not have as met. A missing fact shows as Not stated or Unknown.
  • It never gives immigration advice. Visa checks are based only on published rules, with a link to the source.
  • It never sends an application without you. Portage fills an employer's form only with answers you approved, and only after you approve the exact values.
  • Your workspace is private. Nothing you enter is shared with other workspaces.
